It’s school holidays and here’s a great way to take the kids back in time …way back … into Australia’s history.

The Rocks Discovery Museum needs the kids help to uncover hidden treasures and piece together stories from times long ago. Kids can become an archaeologist, a geologists or even a biologist – just for a day!

The Rocks Discovery Museum, housed in a restored 1850s sandstone warehouse, tells the story of The Rocks from pre-European days to the present.

Home to a unique collection of images and archaeological artefacts found in The Rocks, the exhibits are highly interactive; using touch screens, audio and visual elements to bring the history of the area alive.

Learn about the area's traditional landowners, the establishment of the English colony and the time when sailors, whalers and traders made the area their home; through to the 1970s union-led protests which preserved this unique part of Sydney for future generations to explore and enjoy.

Kids Dig
Calling all Archaeologists… Geologists… Biologists… Historians… The Rocks Discovery Museum needs your help to uncover hidden treasures and piece together stories from times long ago.

Kids Dig at The Rocks Discovery Museum is for kids aged 2–12 years and no experience is necessary. Kids Dig is a hands-on, fun-filled event that simulates a real archaeological dig site in The Rocks.

  

Using special brushes and sifters, children dress up as Junior Discoverers and uncover real objects buried within a safe and clean rubber “soil”.

Rocks Discovery Museum’s friendly and knowledgeable staff will be on hand to oversee the dig and help unravel the story of the site. All participants receive an activity book and the opportunity to enter the ‘Mystery Artefact’ competition.
