A Tavola

A Tavola opened 8 months ago and is a little Italian restaurant that’s big on family values. Head chef and owner Eugenio grew up in a big Italian family where cooking was central to togetherness and culture.

The inspiration for restaurant A Tavola, meaning “to the table,” derives from head chef and owner Eugenio Maiale’s childhood where he would play in the backyard of his Adelaide home while his parents slaved away in the kitchen, yelling out “A Tavola” when dinner was ready. On the kitchen table were consistently simple, honest and traditional style classical dishes. Maiale has continued this concept of simple and elegant food with his first Sydney restaurant.

Part of how A Tavola brings guests into their restaurant family is by serving up food on the communal table in the dining room. Before they’re open for business the pasta is rolled out and cut on the same table so the link between creating the food and eating it is very strong and is in keeping the traditional Italian family values.

A Tavola has a mixed demographic of diners with everyone from gourmet foodies to full-blooded Italians turning up for a great feed and judging from the fact that it’s been booked out most nights, everyone’s flocking ‘A Tavola’.
