Koala Shores Holiday Park

Reporter: Adam Digby

Adam is headed to Port Stephens to a haven for koalas and for kids!

Port Stephens

Port Stephens is 2½ hours drive north of Sydney and is the centre of nature. With a large natural harbour, resident population of bottlenose dolphins, whales in season, koalas in their natural habitat, great bushwalking, marine parks, National Parks, 230 bird species, 48 mammal species and 650 plant species; there is plenty to discover.

Koala Shores Holiday Park

Koala Shores Holiday Park is located in one of the most sought after regions on the Southern end of the North coast of NSW. Blessed with an unusually mild climate, very similar to the Gold Coast, Koala Shores is 2 ½ hours drive north of Sydney and 15 minutes from Newcastle Airport.

In the Port Stephens area, the park occupies a dramatic waterfront site at Lemon Tree Passage - one of the most spectacular coastal areas in Australia. It is in close proximity to licensed clubs, retail shopping, cafes and restaurants, regional schools, an 18-hole golf course and other recreational activities.

It is an attractive and well planned park fronting a spectacular beach. Koala Shores is the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of hectic everyday life and while away relaxing, memorable days amidst the nature and beauty of this wonderful region. Being on a peninsula, Koala Shores has a good, safe kids beach and is only 25 minutes from the surf.

Koala Shores Holiday Park is proudly owned and operated by the Beston Parks Group - created and managed with the customer in mind. Koala Shores Holiday Park is also a franchise member of Big4 Holiday Parks.

As you’d expect at a tourist resort there is a variety of accommodation to choose from. There are tent sites, van sites and for the camper that enjoys a little bit of extra comfort, there are the ensuite sites with water views, private shower, basin, toilet and TV connection with in-house movie channels.

The Water View Suites have a star rating of 4 and sleep up to 6 people. They have an ensuite shower and toilet; spacious, fully equipped kitchen with ceramic hob; microwave; fridge; remote control colour TVs; DVD and in-house movie channels. The rooms also have reverse cycle air-conditioning and ceiling fans, a balcony with private BBQ, outdoor setting and great views.

Private and complete! And totally relaxing. It’s a haven where children can enjoy themselves safely and parents can rest easy.

Guided Habitat Walks

You can take a walk along the boardwalk and significantly up your chances of spotting a koala. There’s 5.4km of walking trails of boardwalk and gravel paths along the foreshore. It starts, or ends depending on which way you want to look at it, at Koala Shores.

However, to further increase you chances of spotting Blinky Bill, sign up for a Guided Habitat Walk with a guide from the Tilligerry Habitat Centre (not far from Koala Shores). Their volunteers can take you on a 1.5hour walk and point more animals out, hopefully a beloved koala, as well as give you a bit of Aboriginal history on the area and introduce you to some Native Australian plants and bushtucker along the way.

Tilligerry Habitat Nature Reserve is a public reserve where you can stroll through the 15 hectares of natural bushland spotting koalas and the birdlife live in the wild with panoramic views of Tanilba Bay. Boardwalks and paths provide an easy walk.

Guided tours (about 1.5 hours) are available twice daily at 10.30am and 2pm daily (bookings essential).
